FAQs Martial Arts in Coventry
Q: How long will it take for me to reach Black Belt?
A: Most of our students earn their Black Belts in 3
years. The duration is dependent upon how regular you are training and taking
Grading. Fast track student can obtain black belt in 18 months but requires
more than double the training and private classes.
Q: When will I take my first Grading?
A: Your Instructor will advise you when you are
ready to take your first Grading which will normally be around three months after
you first start training. Grading take place approximately every three months.
Students training two classes per week are normally eligible to test every three
months provided a minimum of 75% attendance has been achieved since their last
Grading. All testing is at the Instructors discretion.
Q: I've just received my uniform. Where do the
badges go and how do I tie my belt?
A: Along with your shirt (uniform) you will also
receive two badges: the club emblem on the chest and a label showing the
program you're on. The emblem is already on and the badge should go on the left
arm below shoulder.
Grade badges go above your emblem - we do not do
belts as they are an artificial American invention. Get used to sewing and man
Q: Do I have to train in bare feet?
A: Definitely not. Self-defence must be trained as
we live and we don't walk around bare footed. Out of deference for equipment
such as mats we suggest kung fu slippers or socks.
Q: Once I start training, will I have to pay for
A: We recommend that as a minimum you should look to
purchase a t shirt, trousers, focus pads, mitts and shin pads to make it safer
for your colleagues. Full payments are required, but have a chat with us if you
need them but will pay soon. Don't leave the country though!
Additionally if you are going to train hard then we
suggest mouth guards and head gear
In addition, a Grading Fee is also required by WCCW
when you test for new belt ranks (£35.00). Occasionally, special events may be
held, such as seminars or outings which may require additional payment.
Q: When the class starts, how do I know where to
A: When lining up, students should arrange
themselves with junior students at the back of the class through to senior
students at the front. Each row of students is also arranged in descending rank
order from your right to left (if you are facing the front). Therefore, junior
students should be to your left and senior students to your right.
Q: Is there a register?
A: Yes please fill out the attendance cards or
complete the register if they are available.
Q: Is there Members Area website?
A: This is in development and should be available
from 1st January 2014.
Q: What if I am unable to attend a class?
A: We appreciate that occasionally you may have to
miss classes. Whenever possible, it is considered good martial arts etiquette
to notify your Instructor beforehand either personally in class, or via phone/email.
Like gym membership, your tuition fees continue to be paid if you miss classes.
Q: Do I have to pay tuition during the holidays when
there are no classes?
A: Monthly tuition is calculated over 48 weeks of
classes divided into 12 equal payments. This makes budgeting easy and accounts
for two weeks holiday at the end of August when most students and families tend
to be away and approximately two weeks holiday in December when the school locations
are unavailable to hold our classes.
Q: How is my monthly payment taken?
A: We now administer this within the organisation
but are potentially looking at a professional Management group to arrange the
collection of monthly tuition fees by direct debit and support some of our
schools administrative functions. They may also provide on-going education and
guidance on professional standards in the UK martial arts industry. If you have
any problems or queries regarding direct debit or your bank/personal contact
details have changed, please contact your instructor for the moment.
also keep your Student Agreement in a safe place

to stop training, or decide that Wing Chun is not for them. Our Satisfaction

training programme, simply let us know and we will be happy to let you leave

ying yang badges and why are there red T-Shirts?
